You should limit plucking, waxing, and bleaching for 4 weeks before treatment. That’s because the laser targets the hairs’ roots, which are temporarily removed by waxing or plucking You can opt for razor in between sessions

What is Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a cosmetic procedure that uses concentrated beams of light, known as lasers, to remove unwanted body hair. It is a popular method for long term hair reduction and offers an alternative to temporary hair removal techniques like shaving, waxing, or plucking.

The procedure is most effective on individuals with dark hair and light skin because the contrast between the hair and skin allows the laser to target the hair follicles more precisely. However, advancements in laser technology have made it possible to perform laser hair removal on individuals with a wider range of skin and hair types. Laser hair removal is commonly performed on areas such as the face, underarms, legs, bikini line, chest, and back.

Symptoms of Laser Hair Removal

  • Skin Redness: After the treatment, it is common to experience temporary redness in the treated area. This is a normal response to the laser energy and typically subsides within a few hours to a couple of days.
  • Swelling: Some individuals may experience mild swelling around the hair follicles immediately after the procedure. This is usually temporary and resolves on its own within a day or two.
  • Skin Sensitivity: The treated skin may feel sensitive or tender for a short period. It may be mildly painful or uncomfortable, similar to a sunburn sensation.
  • Itching: Itching or tingling sensations in the treated area may occur as the hair follicles respond to the laser treatment. Avoid scratching the area to prevent any potential damage to the skin.
  • Skin Peeling: In some cases, the treated area may undergo a mild peeling process similar to a sunburn. This is a normal part of the healing process and should resolve within a week or two.
  • Changes in Skin Pigmentation: Laser hair removal can sometimes cause temporary changes in skin color. The treated area may become lighter or darker than the surrounding skin. However, these pigment changes usually fade over time, and the skin returns to its normal color within a few weeks or months.

Treatment of Laser Hair Removal

  • Preparation: Before the laser hair removal session, you may be advised to avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for a few weeks to reduce the risk of complications. You will also be instructed to shave the treatment area a day or two before the session to ensure that the laser energy is effectively absorbed by the hair follicles.
  • Treatment session: On the day of the treatment, you will be provided with protective eyewear to shield your eyes from the laser. The technician will adjust the laser equipment according to your skin type, hair color, and thickness. A cooling gel or numbing cream may be applied to the treatment area to minimize discomfort. The technician will then pass the laser device over the area, emitting pulses of laser energy that target the hair follicles.
  • Post treatment care: After the session, you may experience some redness, swelling, or mild discomfort in the treated area. Applying a cold compress or gentle moisturizer can help alleviate these symptoms. It is important to avoid sun exposure and use sunscreen with a high SPF to protect the treated skin. The treated hair will gradually shed over the next few weeks.
  • Multiple sessions: Laser hair removal typically requires multiple sessions to achieve long lasting results. Hair grows in cycles, and the laser can only target actively growing hair follicles. Therefore, multiple sessions are needed to catch the hair in different growth phases. The exact number of sessions varies depending on factors such as the treated area, hair thickness, and individual response to the treatment. Generally, 6 to 8 sessions spaced several weeks apart are recommended.
  • Maintenance sessions: Once the initial sessions are completed, you may need occasional maintenance sessions to target any new hair growth or to touch up areas that were not completely treated in earlier sessions.
