Hair Loss Treatment

Hair loss, also known as alopecia, refers to a condition in which a person experiences a partial or complete loss of hair from areas of the body where hair would normally grow. It can affect the scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, beard, and other parts of the body.

Hair loss can occur due to various reasons and can affect both men and women. The most common type of hair loss is androgenetic alopecia, also known as male-pattern or female-pattern baldness.

How does it works?

  1. Medications: The most commonly prescribed medication for hair loss is minoxidil (Rogaine). It is available over-the-counter and comes in the form of a topical solution or foam. Minoxidil is applied directly to the scalp and may help slow down hair loss and promote hair regrowth.

  2. Finasteride: This prescription medication is primarily used to treat male pattern baldness. It works by blocking the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is a hormone that can shrink hair follicles. By reducing DHT levels, finasteride can help slow down hair loss and promote regrowth.

  3. Hair transplant surgery: This procedure involves removing hair follicles from one part of the scalp (usually the back or sides) and transplanting them to the areas with thinning or no hair. Hair transplant surgery is typically recommended for individuals with advanced hair loss.

  4. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT): LLLT devices emit red light wavelengths that stimulate hair follicles and promote hair growth. This treatment can be done at home using handheld devices or at specialized clinics.

  5. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy: PRP therapy involves extracting a patient’s blood, separating the platelet-rich plasma, and injecting it into the scalp. The growth factors in PRP are believed to promote hair growth.

  6. Scalp micropigmentation (SMP): SMP is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that uses specialized pigments to create the appearance of a shaved head or a denser hairline. It is a suitable option for individuals who prefer a short or shaved hairstyle.
